HOW THE BEST WEDDING AND EVENT PLANNERS ARE STAYING CREATIVELY INSPIRED
So, it’s been real. The Wedding and Events Industry has been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and Event Planners are surely feeling it. But, with years of experience in this business of planning, designing, executing and maintaining relations with clients, Event Planners have shown to be resilient and proactive in responding to the ever-changing environment that we have found ourselves in.
As a way to keep our hearts lifted and excited for the weddings we get to celebrate after this has all passed, Toronto Planner Love By Lynzie caught up with top Industry Wedding and Event Planners, who shared their secrets on staying creatively inspired, hopeful and motivated during COVID-19. From raw stories about tough challenges they’ve faced to new found talents they’ve discovered over the course of working from home, they tell all and offer some insightful pointers on boosting creativity for aspiring event planners. I had the honour of sharing my thoughts with their team, featured in their blog below:
What are your top 3 three hacks to staying creative during COVID-19?
a) Follow other creatives – Make intentional space in your day to research a fellow industry professional and learn more about what motivates THEM. I’ve loved making new connections and I’ve even scheduled 15 minute ZOOM calls for mini-meetings for some motivational conversation mid-day and to make new friends.
b) Find new podcasts – with the #stayathome orders, I have been making a lot more dinners at home and I love listening to podcasts while I prep. It helps close off a long day, keeps me stimulated and inspired to hear of the efforts and strategic planning from #eventprofs all over North America.
c) House Projects! We moved into our new house in the middle of last year’s wedding season and pre-covid, I still had several rooms to paint and some refurbishing projects I never had time to complete. As my season stalled and the summer started looking a little different, I picked up a paint brush and got to work. It’s been great to feel like I’m accomplishing something, getting my eyes away from a computer screen and making our house feel more like our home. I return to my computer refreshed and prepared to tackle a new day of conversations and planning.
What has been your biggest Challenge?
I develop such close relationships with my clients because I only take on a handful of weddings each year and I always look forward to our monthly meetings, site inspections and checking items off our ‘to do’ list in real time. Moving every meeting ‘online’ and connecting with my clients virtually was probably the toughest part, especially given the difficult conversations and decisions we had to make without physically sitting across from my couples. Ultimately, video conferencing has allowed my business to continue to operate and allow me to pick up on gestures, nuances and body language from my couples and I will continue using these tools. I am grateful to have such understanding and flexible couples prepared to work with me on plan B/C/D and I am SO excited to return to ‘in person’ meetings!
What advice do you have for industry pros or aspiring designers for staying creative during COVID-19?
Keep reading, learning and sharing with fellow wedding professionals! It can be so easy to feel isolated during long periods at home, but I encourage people to start their day with some self-reflection and daily / weekly / monthly goal setting – what do I want to accomplish today? – what can I do to benefit my business in one week? One month? One year? Take time to look at your own website and ask a vendor pal (or two) to audit your site and social media and provide some suggestions and recommendations. Seize this time as an opportunity to enhance your web presence and connect with other event professionals.
Although Event Professionals would otherwise leverage in person brainstorming sessions, meetings with prospective clients or leisure activities, COVID-19 has encouraged new and unique ways of doing business, staying creative and getting their craft out into the world. We can truly say, we’re inspired. Kudos to our Industry Pros! Thanks to the @LovebyLynzie team for the chat and of course, check out what fellow #EventProfs have to say on the matter by clicking on the full post below:
