Raezavel & Jarryd’s Celestial Inspired Wedding

As the 2022 wedding season comes to a close, we are reflecting on all the beautiful weddings we created this year.  Raezavel and Jarryd’s Celestial Night wedding was so unique we felt it deserved a feature in today’s blog. Read all about their intimate and gorgeous wedding here. Photos by Chris Ngo Photography.

Two details helped make this wedding very special - the date and the theme.

February 22 {2-22-22}.

It isn’t often we get requests for a Tuesday wedding, but when Raezavel approached us with this wedding date in mind, we were intrigued.  There were a few reasons for this - Raezavel’s affinity for numerology and in particular, the spiritual meaning of the number 2 and 22 together. Additionally, the couple happened to meet years ago working at KFC, home of the “Toonie Tuesday” menu special.  Adding to this, February 22 happened to fall on a Tuesday this year so it was all “2” perfect, (excuse the pun)!

Professionally, Raezavel is a brand photographer, (side note: please give her a follow if you don’t already @raezcreative). In the same way she carefully plans content and vision boards for her clients, she had a clear theme for her wedding, inspired by the couple’s love of the night sky. Together we chatted about creating a dreamy and intimate affair featuring cocktails and delicious food surrounded by a romantic and minimal aesthetic. We couldn’t wait to help bring her vision to life!

We needed an event space to transform so we suggested St. Norbert Arts Centre. The gallery features hardwood flooring, a ceiling with multiple rigging points and a statement white backdrop wall - it was the perfect space to execute our decor plans!

The white backdrop wall became a focal point for all parts of the wedding day, so we designed a majority of the decor in this area. Against this wall we draped soft white and navy voile fabric and a strand of bistro lights. The colour palette featured shades of blues, champagne and antique gold and this was reflected in the wedding party apparel, linens and rentals. The real show stopper was the ‘starry sky’ ceiling installation featuring strands and strands of Edison bulbs carefully woven in and out of the ceiling and gold stars suspended all above. This created a stunning canopy for their wedding celebrations.

Invitation design is a great way to carry out your wedding theme and incorporate wedding colours.  Raezavel designed the stationery herself, which included gold foil detailing and this beautiful blue envelope.   We are all for a dress code to complement the decor, so the couple requested their guests wear shades of greys, blues and blacks with silver or gold accessories.  With the ceiling and backdrop design, we kept the flowers simple, and Raezavel’s bouquet featured all white florals with accents of blue thistle and olive branches tied in white velvet ribbon.  The couple also loved having a photo guest book. The fujifilm instant photos were a hit and it made going through the guestbook after the wedding so much fun. Guests also enjoyed themselves and got creative with it.

Raezavel and Jarryd shared their first look, wedding party and family portraits in front of the backdrop. Before the ceremony, Raezavel completed her celestial bridal look with this incredible star studded cape, paired with a statement bridal crown.

As the sun set they exchanged vows in front of fifty of their nearest and dearest and had a family member officiate the ceremony for them which was incredibly heartfelt and personal. We love how gorgeous these photos turned out.

To enhance the romantic atmosphere and in order to add lots of ambient lighting, we sourced these fabulous vintage brass candlesticks. These, along with gold hexagon and mini gold votives lined the aisle and the tables. We selected linens that were a rich, navy velvet and carefully placed greenery to accent the table surfaces.

After the ceremony, we did a quick room flip and re-arranged the chairs around a mix of high and low tables for the cocktail reception. When appropriate, we like to utilize the same room for ceremony and reception because it allows our clients to maximize their room rental and decor pieces. During the second half of the wedding, guests enjoyed a charcuterie spread and a variety of hearty passed foods like scallop stuffed prawns and mini Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches along with a signature bourbon cocktail and other libations at the bar.

Following speeches, the couple enjoyed their first dances and cut into their starry inspired gold and blue wedding cake from @sugarandsaltbakeshoppe. Guests enjoyed cupcakes along with a combination of Indian and Filipino desserts while mingling ‘under the stars’ for the rest of the evening.

Raezavel and Jarryd’s celestial, romantic wedding was a dream to plan! Congratulations Raez and Jarryd!
