Katie & Rob’s Sleek & Monochrome Wedding

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is one of our favourite venues, and we are pleased to feature a striking wedding we planned and designed this past summer.  Keeping scrolling to read all about Katie & Rob’s sleek and monochrome wedding.

Like many of our couples, Katie and Rob chose to see each other privately before the ceremony and take all their portraits in the afternoon. This allowed them to maximize the time spent with their family and friends during cocktails and reception.

We planned their first look at our favourite outdoor portrait spot - The Leo Mol Sculpture Gardens. This fabulous private garden and arbour provides a stunning backdrop for wedding party portraits of all sizes and provides a nice contrast to their downtown venue.

We loved Katie’s floral vision - all white rose, ranunculus and a touch of blush nestled in a cluster of babies breath.  Her bridesmaids had just a touch more greenery and held smaller versions of her bouquet. The couple enjoyed a few portraits on their own before the wedding party joined them.

Afterwards, the wedding party departed for photos at a second location called the Governor’s House on the grounds of the Manitoba legislature. This gorgeous spot near the Art Gallery was recommended to us by their photographer, Aimee de la Lande.  We always lean on our photographers to help us build the wedding itinerary and collaborate to ensure we get the best possible pictures for our couples!

After the formal portraits concluded, the couple and their wedding party relaxed at the venue while we put the final touches on the ceremony set up in the Skylight Gallery. We placed acrylic pedestals in various heights on either side of the aisle with three floral arrangements designed to look like they were connecting.  The florals matched Katie’s bouquet and were made of babies breath and white roses, and they also matched the florals lining the aisle. Planned Perfectly installed a soft white drape behind the couple to finish the look.

With the ceremony fully set and all formal portraits complete, we were ready to welcome our guests! They were greeted by a gorgeous welcome sign at the main entrance and sparkling wine upon arrival and then it was time to make their way to their seats. The ceremony was officiated by Rob’s Brother; which offered a sentimental touch during this portion of the wedding.  We love when close family and friends are involved in such a special moment!

Katie and Rob are married!  Following the ceremony, guests headed to the rooftop for cocktails and musical accompaniment by guitarist and vocalist, George Semchuk. We set the roof top with patio furniture, cocktail tables and florals and a full service bar featuring the couple’s signature cocktails, Aperol Spritz and Old Fashioned.  We also served appetizers by WOW Catering, including roasted Manitoba golden beets with goat cheese and dill and mini lobster tacos.

While the guests were enjoying cocktails, the team was busy re-purposing ceremony florals at the reception.  We added floral arrangements to the guest tables and re-purposed the ceremony altar florals and plinths were around the bars, along with black candle boxes.

Floral Fixx placed a large arrangement at the bottom of the couple’s welcome sign in a long, narrow container and we flipped the sign around during cocktails to reveal the seating chart. We love when rentals and florals can do double duty at a wedding, (and we know our couples do as well)!

The reception tables were one of our favourite designs of the season. To compliment the ceremony, we envisioned primarily white décor and blooms with touches of grey, blush and modern black elements with acrylic pieces to create a minimalist and contemporary look. The centerpiece flowers were a trio of clean, crisp babies breath arrangements and white roses lining the long, dramatic tables.  We placed black taper candles in between the floral clusters with black acrylic table numbers to bring a nice contrast and rented soft grey linens to dress the tables.

Planned Perfectly installed this beautiful front entrance drape to keep the reception tables a surprise. Look at how elegant the draping looked against our table scape!

We placed candle boxes along the head table for added ambience and added the bridesmaids bouquets along the head table to make it stand out even more, (and a great place to repurpose these blooms). The couple and their wedding party dined at the head table, with toasts by family, maid of honour and best man throughout dinner service. Check out Katie’s fabulous accessory addition with these tulle gloves by Hera Couture.

After dinner, while the DJ was getting warmed up and the guests were mingling and enjoying the photo booth by 6 Degrees, the couple took sunset photos around the Gallery and under the grand bistro light entrance.

As a keepsake, Katie and Rob had their guests sign the back of a duplicate of their photo booth pictures with a message to the couple - we love this idea as an alternative to the traditional guest book!

Thanks to all our fabulous vendor partners who helped bring their wedding to life!
