Elizabeth & Jon’s Pop-Up Style Wedding

The pandemic has given way to a surge in small weddings and we hope this trend doesn’t go away anytime soon.  As all the photos and video continue to pour in from an amazing summer season, we wanted to showcase a very special intimate wedding we were delighted to be a part of this past summer.

Elizabeth called me last spring and after a few minutes chatting on the phone, I knew we could plan something special for her and Jon.  She wanted to enjoy a simple, beautiful, downtown ceremony and cocktail celebration with twenty guests and she needed a wedding planner to help make that happen. Elizabeth and Jon fully trusted us with the creative direction and they were content in keeping flowers and decor a surprise until the wedding day. This hands-off approach almost never happens in our design planning, so we enthusiastically agreed!

Elizabeth and Jon LOVE to support local restaurants, especially those with hand crafted, quality cocktails. We wanted to pick a venue that was trendy, situated downtown and would complement the small guest list so we approached local distillery, Patent 5.  Patent 5 serves up the most delicious cocktails in their cozy cocktail bar.  The interior features reclaimed stained glass and wood detailing from the former St. Regis Hotel and it’s a neat mix of old and new in an intimate setting. If you’ve perused the shelves of your local LC, you may have come across some of their signature products - their Purple Blossom or Manitoba Berry Gin.

Elizabeth and Jon opted NOT to have a first look and instead Elizabeth pulled up in this fabulous vintage car driven by her best friend’s Dad.  We all felt the emotions as Jon saw Elizabeth at the ceremony for the first time.

We wanted to present an interesting contrast to the interior space, so we chose a softer palette of peaches, blues and golds which also complimented the summer season.  Elizabeth and Jon exchanged vows in front of the brick wall with this industrial ceiling fixture, flanked by these gorgeous ceremony florals from Floral Fixx. One side featured a gold geo stand with lots of winding, wispy greens and flowers as accents in peaches, antique blush, soft blues & toffee and the other side featured more of a ground based arrangement.  The chairs have all been thrifted and sourced from various places and we loved the mix and match vibe for our ceremony seating.

To complement the industrial aesthetic, we used hand lettered chalkboards to display the signature cocktails and placed a cluster of summer blooms in peach, blues and greenery using assorted jade bud vases.

We called on our friends Nolan and India from Gigman Duo to play the ceremony and cocktail hour.  They welcomed guests upon arrival with their classic and modern repertoire list to create the most intimate, yet romantic atmosphere.

Following the ceremony, the couple signed the marriage license in the Barrel Room at Patent 5.  Many couples opt to sign the license before or after the actual ceremony, choosing to keep the moment more private and enjoy some quiet time together. We love how gorgeous these photos turned out!

Meanwhile, guests headed outside to the newly built patio and enjoyed two outstanding cocktails along with individual charcuterie cups.  Elizabeth and Jon joined their guests for toasts and enjoyed their first dance in the middle of the street. It was cool, romantic and felt like we had the whole downtown to ourselves.

Following their guest departure, the couple had the most fantastic sunset photo session with their photographer around the exchange.  We love the mix of photos in front of the river and around the historic buildings in the area.

Elizabeth and Jon’s wedding day proves you don’t need to have a huge wedding to make a statement and host the day of your dreams! Congratulations you two!
