2022 Wedding Trends

2022 is here and so is the wedding boom. The Bridal Theory estimates over 2.5 million weddings will take place this year – the most amount of weddings since 1984!  The pandemic isn’t over, but celebrations are back and we are so excited to see a record number of beautiful and unique wedding celebrations this year, all driven by a return to party-mode. We are here for it, and know you are too!  From interactive entertainment to contemporary rentals, check out some trends you can expect to see this year in the world of weddings.

Big Entertainment

Couples continue to tell us they want to have FUN at their weddings in 2022 so creating an exciting atmosphere for clients and guests alike will be a top priority. There are numerous ways this can be achieved, whether it is through design, entertainment and some surprise elements that will delight your guests.  On the entertainment side of things, more couples are opting to book live bands, or book different musicians throughout the night, (think a string instrument for ceremony, jazz duo for cocktails and a big band for reception). The more entertainers and musical diversity, the better!

Vibrant Colour

We LOVE the bright and bold colour in our design plans lately.  This year, shades of green seem to be the new neutral and there are lots of pink, red, blush and berry tone requests as well.  We expect couples will continue to build unexpected palettes into their wedding décor and move in the direction of vibrant and  happy as we start to gather again.

To add to the colour trend, Pantone has just announced their colour of the year – Very Peri a novel vision of the trusted and beloved blue colour family, encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time with its violet red undertone it displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions.  Expect everything from fashion to home décor to special events to include elements of these colours in the new year.

Monochrome Florals

Floral design is moving away from romantic and lush arrangements towards smaller clusters of flowers in matching colours.  At least part of the reason floral trends are scaling back is because of global flower shortages.  Florists are responding to this by using less flowers and instead larger individual blooms arranged in various textured vessels for interest. Couples are focusing their time and attention on more tactile tabletop details like charger plates, glassware and flatware.  These layers of details can really wow guests and create an elevated way of hosting.

Retro Vibes

We started seeing this trend emerge during last year’s wedding season, and based on fashion trends, 70’s styles are coming back to weddings.  We are seeing ribbed textures and pressed florals on candles, rentals and stationery and 70’s fashion is reflected in hats, ruffled sleeves and bell bottoms.  Some photographers and videographers are also experimenting with vintage photo styles and video techniques.

Individual Servings

Servings for one with style! One of the biggest trends in 2022 catering is the idea of leveled-up individualized foods as 2022 weddings and events strive to serve guests safely.  This year expect to see caviar tastings, sushi flights, enhanced serving trays with elegant cloches, branded lucite covers and custom platters with guest names.

Digital Save the Dates and Invites

Ten years ago it was extremely uncommon to send a digital save the date, however due to the uncertainty brought upon by the pandemic, couples on tight timelines have been leaning towards e-vites to expedite the most up to date information to their guests. The same trend goes for wedding invitations and this can be a huge cost savings for couples.  Our wedding day tip: if you opted for a digital invite, make sure to print one copy on your wedding day for your photographer to capture or ask them to snap a shot of your digital version as a keepsake.

Natural and Contemporary Rentals

Event rentals tend to follow interior design trends and that means you can expect to see the same rattan elements, macrame tassel chandeliers and plush seating in neutrals to create an earthy and comfortable aesthetic for weddings this year. These soothing touches and palettes will work especially well in outdoor natural settings.
