TENT WEDDINGS: What You Should Know
Tents have become a VERY popular option for couples getting married in this time of COVID. There has been a surge in tent weddings in the last year and the AME team is planning for several tent celebrations this upcoming wedding season. I particularly LOVE the uniqueness that comes with a tent wedding; each one can NEVER be duplicated in the exact same way in terms of décor, food service, flow and location. Every weekend in the summer, I get the opportunity to work with a collection of the best Manitoba wedding vendors and ‘build’ a wedding from the ground up. We start from scratch and commence set up days in advance of the wedding and by the following Monday, it’s like we were never there – total magic! It really is such a privilege to get these opportunities to be so creative and deliver something special for our clients every-damn-time!
2021 WEDDING TRENDS
Farewell 2020! We have a lot to look forward to in 2021; so much so that I am sharing this post a little earlier than usual. Blogging about wedding trends is turning into a bit of an annual tradition at AME and the truth is, we are so excited to celebrate many beautiful and unique wedding celebrations next year. From intimate gatherings to bold backdrops, check out what you can expect to see next year in the world of weddings.
EMCEE 101
As a wedding planner, it is my job to make EVERYONE look and feel their best on a wedding day, and emcees are no exception. Many people underestimate the importance of an emcee, but emcees have the power to hinder or enhance any event and require one on one attention just like all vendors.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A WEDDING PLANNER
In the wedding industry (particularly in the Manitoba market), the period of October to March corresponding with the Christmas/Valentine’s holidays are BIG for bookings. I’ve gone into many reasons WHY to hire a wedding planner but in the early stages of your search, it’s important to have a list of what to look for in the same way you’d have checklists for your DJ, a photographer or a florist. Here is my recommended list of considerations as you search for your wedding planner.
TIPS FOR GUESTS PREPARING FOR WEDDING SEASON
Attending more weddings than you can count this summer? Start preparing now for the 2017 wedding season and follow these tips.
WHAT GUESTS REMEMBER
Okay, I admit it – when I plan an event I always stress over every décor detail but the truth is, your guests probably won’t remember the sprig of thyme on each place setting or the gold foil trim on the program. When planning any party you should always have your guests comfort in mind and here are the items that really count towards the overall guest experience…
FINDING THE RIGHT WEDDING OFFICIANT
Were you one of the lucky couples who got engaged over Christmas and Valentine’s Day? You have likely already started the wedding planning process but I think the most overlooked vendor in any stage of planning is often your officiant, also known as your wedding commissioner. Along with other vendors like florists, photographers and musicians, it is very important to consider WHO is going to marry you. Last year I was so excited to officially become registered with vital statistics Manitoba and now I am proud to say I am legally able to perform marriages in Manitoba. When couples inquire about my wedding commissioner, (‘Yes We Do’) service I always look for a personality fit since I will be involved in the most detailed parts of planning a couple’s special day. When you are shopping around for a wedding commissioner, it is important to consider the following…..
BUDGETING BASICS
I always start a preliminary phone call or meeting with my favorite question: ‘what is your budget?’ This is often met with silence, nervous exchanges and a lot of questions. There is nothing exciting when it comes to talking numbers around your wedding day but the truth is, you can’t move forward without a solid budget to work from. Not only is this the foundation for your wedding planning but confirming your budget early will keep you in control, eliminate guilty spending and help to minimize conflict down the line.
WEDDING COORDINATORS vs. VENUE COORDINATORS
As I continue to meet with old and new contacts around the city, I find the title ‘wedding coordinator’ comes up everywhere. It seems that a lot of people call themselves wedding coordinators these days especially when it comes to professionals working at an event venue. I think that I take for granted the fact that I started my career running events at a venue and am pretty familiar with the distinction. I have been asked a few times to clarify the professional differences, so here goes….
