2020 WEDDING TRENDS

wedding trends

Happy New Year everyone and welcome to a brand new decade! 2020 is going to be our busiest year yet and we are SO excited for all the events and weddings going down in the next 12 months. After some time off in December, we are ready to get back to planning and designing with all our amazing clients and to kick off the New Year, we’ve listed some predicted trends for the upcoming event season.  From BIG fashion to bold colours, check out what you can expect to see this year.

BIG Fashion

We LOVE awards season since the red carpet gives us a great sneak peek into upcoming formal fashion trends. This year we expect the look to be BIG and over the top - think dramatic ball gowns, shoulder pads, lace, oversized barrettes and statement hair clips.   This is a total departure from the sleek and barely there sheath gowns from a few years ago.

Sophistication

Couples and wedding designers are moving away from the concept of a wedding ‘theme’ (ie. tea party, vintage, etc.) and more towards an overall feeling or vibe generated through huge statement décor and floral pieces, lighting (especially neon and bright colours) and food and beverage.  These fine details yield more elevated and sophisticated weddings and events no matter the location.

Interactive Elements
Creative and roaming entertainers and unique ways to serve up food and beverage are all the rage and a great way to make your event stand out.  Think roaming food stations, champagne door bells, and conveyor belts for food and beverage.

Anything Goes
One of our favorite (and growing) trends -  couples are ditching traditional elements like formal ceremonies, long speeches, wedding cakes, and bouquet tosses and instead prioritizing guest experience to create a fun party atmosphere with emphasis on entertainment and quality food and specialty cocktails.  We love creating these types of functions!

Social and Eco Conscious

This ‘trend’ has now evolved into a movement and it isn’t going anywhere soon.  As couples grow to be more inclusive and ‘green’ in their everyday lives, weddings and events are (finally) catching up.   Gender neutral and equitable language is reflected in the ceremony script, speeches, invitations and on site in the form of neutral washrooms.  Food and beverage is more ‘inclusive’ than ever with loads of local and vegan/plant based menu options.  Many vendors and couples are working together in an effort towards reduced waste at weddings like eliminating water bottles and straws, composting, using repurposed apparel, local flowers – the options are endless and we couldn’t be more on board!

Dried Elements

We are seeing more and more combinations of dried and fresh floral elements and nature scapes.  The result is a golden, earthy, monochromatic dream (DJ Tiesto’s wedding was a celebrity fave of ours in 2019). There is something so glamorous about sky high pampas grasses complimented by glass accents, mirror arches and, (always) tons of candles.

Bold Colour & Pantone
Bold colors are super trendy this year. Think emerald, golden yellow, moody maroon and saturated blue in a range of colours instead of a more traditional dual colour palate. Pantone has announced its colour of 2020 is a classic Blue, a shade reminiscent of the sky at dusk, it anticipates what is to happen next and is a fantastic accent colour for weddings, fashion and home.
